How Would I Vote? - The Fire Boat

As the issue stands now, I would not vote in favor of this boat. Mainly because the boat that is being considered would be better suited for Crisfield. Even though it is Stimulus money, I do not think it fiscally responsible to accept grant funds that are borrowed.

I do not disagree that we need a new fire boat and one that is suitable to our situation. We are the second busiest port in Maryland and there is quite bit of fuel that travels up our river. However, I believe there are other options that cost less and we should be looking at those.

1 Caught, 2 sought in one Murder in the 'Bury

Brooks Lamar Seldon --- Caught.

In what has been a dangerous week in Salisbury, which is turning in to the norm, many city residents are on edge.  Two murders and one that has left a man brain dead has sent shock waves through the community.

Brooks Seldon has been arrested in connection with a murder on Charles Street.  Troy Wilson was sitting on his front porch Monday at 1:25 AM when a red Dodge Neon stopped and the passengers opened fire on Troy Wilson, who was unarmed.

As the group was attempting to get away, they struck a vehicle.  They exited the car and fled on foot.  One suspect was witnessed dropping his gun.

Frederick Coston -- Wanted

Wilson was transported to PRMC and is reported as brain dead according to the Daily Times. 

Seven hours earlier the bodies of Antonio Smith and Arlene Byrd were found at Parkside Apartments.  Police discovered their bodies during a welfare check after a concerned neighbor reported a disturbance.  Their deaths have been ruled as a homicide. 

This All-American City winner is quickly becoming a city with an out of control gang problem, bank robberies, hotel robberies,  and daily shoplifting incidents.  That is not even scratching the surface.

Keshawn White -- Wanted

The culture in this city and county has taken a downward spiral.  With millions of dollars being spent on education every year, the current approach is not working.  We are still ending up with people who do not respect other people's civil liberties.

The focus is on the Police which is the wrong approach because they are a reaction to crime.  They are constantly spread thin and run from one call to another.  Our State's Attorneys Office is overloaded with petty cases that are clogging up the resources of our justice system.

Our judicial system is one area that is failing us.  Education is the other.  These are the two areas we need to focus on for reform.  I just hope we are not to late.

Impact fees on table again

SALISBURY -- The time may soon come when growth has to pay its own municipal burden in Salisbury. But for many, the implementation of a fee structure to do so will come too late.

The Salisbury City Council is expected to bring impact fees to the table again today during a work session and could push legislation forward for a public hearing.

Impact fees are one-time payments used to construct system improvements needed to accommodate new development and can only be used for capital improvements. In Salisbury's case, that includes a fire house, police station or public park.

Councilwoman Debbie Campbell said she's heard murmurs of an impact fee ordinance since she's been on council -- five years -- and recently elected Mayor Jim Ireton, who touted growth paying for growth in his campaign, said heavy growth has already taken its toll on area resources, and it may be too late to stem it with impact fees. click here to read More

**** My View****
I do not support impact fees or anything else that is going to hinder economic growth. Salisbury is already an unfriendly place to businesses. One more obstacle is not what we need in these tough economic times. We need to accommodate businesses who are willing to invest and create jobs in Salisbury.

Keeping the Faith

It was a long hard run and we came up short. I learned so much about myself and the quality of the people that live in this great city. We have much to be grateful for but the fight goes on.

The fight goes on for:

• The need for civility and offering real solutions, not rhetoric.
• Streamlining duplicating government services.
• Reducing the tax burden on citizens.
• Getting the community to stand up as a whole and fight crime.

I vow to keep fighting for these and the many other issues that our city faces. I will work with the new mayor in whatever capacity he needs. I am here to serve.

Welcome to the Eastern Shore Libertarians website. We are in the beginning stages of organizing for the Lower Shore. In the wake of Dr. Richard Davis' congressional campaign last year, we have seen that there is a different movement a foot, one that calls out for Liberty and Sensibility. Focusing on the issues that face our region, state, and nation is the key as we will be offering common sense solutions to problems that have been over complicated.

We will be announcing an organizational meeting soon for all of those interested in participating. We will be building up momentum for Dr. Davis' Congressional campaign in 2010.
